12th June 2021
World Gin Day is a global celebration of gin each year, taking place on the second Saturday of every June. Since 2009, each World Gin Day has held a tradition where people from around the world raise a glass of gin in celebration. Events take place across 30 countries and to some fans, World Gin Day is more like a month-long celebration! Even during the pandemic, gin lovers around the world continued the World Gin Day traditions virtually. So, since World Gin Day is the perfect day to have a few rounds of gin & tonic, why not treat yourself to a quality bottle of gin?
About World Gin Day:
Gin is unique as it started as a medicine, and its origins can be traced back to Denmark, where it was originally known as Jenever. With its flavourful juniper berry taste and versatility, there’s no surprise to us that it has a dedicated day to be celebrated across the world. Especially since it’s one of the most popular spirits in the UK! World Gin Day’s Chief is blogger and gin expert known as Gin Monkey (aka Emma Stokes). We recommend any avid gin drinkers can follow Emma on Twitter if you’d like to learn more about gin and cocktails. The World Gin Day tradition began when Emma’s friend Neil Houston wanted to organise a gin session with his friends! You may also be familiar with National Gin & Tonic Day from the US on the 9th April, or International Gin & Tonic Day on 19th October 2021.
