Alfred the Great Gin

Our first gin is a London dry gin, inspired by Wessex’s most famous King, Alfred the Great, who ruled from 871 to 899 AD. Alfred battled the Vikings throughout his entire reign and this is reflected in the big initial thump of piney juniper. The flavours that follow, pay homage to Alfred’s other attributes: the enlightening peppery coriander represents his appreciation of the importance of learning and scholarship and the citrusy end notes for his close association with Rome. The Wessex twist in this gin is chervil, with its faintly aniseed flavour, according to Herbarium it was believed in those days to “strengthen the stomach” when mixed with honey and a freshly ground poppy.
